This week we had some RAIN! On Tuesday it started off as a super-hot day with a really strong presence of the Sun. It was SUPER HOT. Anyway we saw a couple clouds and I thought to myself, “I wonder if it will rain today.” After teaching a family we walked out of the house and it started a torrential downpour! We had to run for shelter and tried to wait out the rain a little bit. While under a tarp of a building we got to talk with some of the other people hiding from the rain, but we were thoroughly soaked. I love the rain, but I don’t like being soaked LOL.
We have been trying to help Adriano and Marileia this last week. They are parents of a family whose daughter we baptized this last week. They all have been attending church for a little over a month. Anyway, they are super determined for Baptism and are just waiting for their wedding papers to get back (which should be in the next month.) Well Friday we went to their house to give a message and they were sitting in front of their house in the trunk of their car. They have been unemployed for the last few months and they had just had their electricity cut. Marileia was in tears and Adriano was trying to hold up strong in front of his soon to be wife. We all entered the house and started to read the Book of Mormon by candle light. The spirit felt the home and it was a sweet experience to talk about how the Lord allows us all to be tried in our lives, and if they continue to keep the commandments and follow the road of repentance, the Lord will bless them. It was a tender moment with a family; their faith was felt and strengthened. On Sunday their daughter sprained her ankle on the way to Church and they waited to go to the hospital because they wanted her to receive the Holy Ghost. Viviane walked up to the pulpit on her sprained ankle and the spirit testified to me of the Miracles that I have witnessed in this family.
Today I was reading in the Book of Alma in the 37th Chapter when Alma gives counsel to his son Helaman, he said the following:
44 For behold, it is as easy to give heed to the word of Christ, which will point to you a straight course to eternal bliss, as it was for our fathers to give heed to this compass, which would point unto them a straight course to the promised land.
45 And now I say, is there not a type in this thing? For just as surely as this director did bring our fathers, by following its course, to the promised land, shall the words of Christ, if we follow their course, carry us beyond this vale of sorrow into a far better land of promise.
46 O my son, do not let us be slothful because of the easiness of the way; for so was it with our fathers; for so was it prepared for them, that if they would look they might live; even so it is with us. The way is prepared, and if we will look we may live forever.
47 And now, my son, see that ye take care of these sacred things, yea, see that ye look to God and live.
Sometime the path of discipleship seems difficult, and the challenges will come and they will try our faith. Like a candle in a small room or a compass in the wilderness, the Words of Christ will guide us from our sorrows to a Land of eternal bliss. It may be easy, it may be trying, BUT the Lord will always bless us and with him, life is a whole lot easier then without him. We cannot arrive in a land of eternal bliss without obeying his words and loving his doctrine.
“Look to God and Live.”
That He lives is my testimony, I have seen his hand in my life and in the lives of countless others. He loves you, you are never forsaken, but rather, always loved.
Have a GREAT WEEK!
